Hereford Races

The cathedral town of Hereford has a long and proud history with a great many architectural marvels and rich cultural remnants and displays of days gone by. Perhaps one of its lesser known attractions is Hereford Racecourse, and formed in 1771it has no less history attached to it than the city’s many other notable aspects. Today, as throughout its history, Hereford Racecourse offers all the fun and excitement for which horseracing is so renowned, and all within a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Hereford Races, inside rail Hereford races form a part of the National Hunt season with 14 competitive fixtures over 9 months of the year for racegoers to choose from. The track is compact and in a right handed square shape, making for great viewing and favouring good gallopers. One and a half mile in length, the course consists of nine jumps, including two open ditches and a water jump. There is just one fence to take from the final turn which encourages late runs and dramatic finishes. A large number of runners are always attracted to Hereford races further adding to the spectacle.

Hereford Racecourse occupies a beautiful setting on the edge of the city. A great raceday experience can be incorporated into short breaks and holidays within Herefordshire and the nearby Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales.

The atmosphere at Hereford races combines with truly exciting races to offer the casual racegoer a superb day out and for families to make the most of any leisure time spent in the area.

Highlights of the racing calendar incorporate some of the local flavour and festivities too. Winter Wonderland Raceday is always a fun event for the family, with a Christmas market and Santa Claus for the kids. The local brews are very much celebrated, in both the Wye Valley Brewery Day in April and Beer and Cider Day in November, while the highlight of the social calendar is Ladies Day, in June, when high fashion and good racing combine to great effect.

Admission to Hereford races costs £14.00 per person for a weekday Grandstand badge, and £17.00 for the weekend fixtures.

A £2 reduction in each ticket is available for students, OAPs and groups of fifteen or more when booked in advance. Parking is free and children under sixteen can attend all events for free too when accompanied by an adult.

For the complete raceday experience, the thrill of the races is generally accompanied by some dining, drinks and of course some betting and with fully inclusive packages racegoers can enjoy all the additional features and hospitality that has become synonymous with a day at the races. For £25.00 racegoers can opt for the Fancy a Flutter Package.

Hospitality facilities at Hereford races are first class and hospitality packages present the ideal way to enjoy a great day out with friends, family or as a corporate event. For small groups, Silks Restaurant offers a superb environment for raceday and a restaurant package incorporates admission, including exclusive viewing from the viewing stand at the restaurant, a reserved table for the whole day, a raceday programme and a mouth-watering three-course meal, all for £56.00 per person. For an additional £5.00 per person a window table can be booked.

Hereford Races, photo finish Groups of 12 people or more have further hospitality options to choose from. A private box or suite offers the real VIP treatment and from £69.00 per person your guests or clients can enjoy a private facility with panoramic views over the course and CCTV to catch all the close-up racing action, a choice of buffet or formal dining with a dedicated waiter or waitress, hospitality badge which allows access to the private facility and public areas of the course, raceday programmes, Tote betting facilities, cash or account bar, and free parking. Groups of up to 100 can be accommodated in style, exclusivity and comfort.

For those who wish a more informal dining and drinks experience there are a selection of additional course restaurants and bars open to all racegoers.

The Winning Post is a recently refurbished pub and dining space which serves a full range of wines and spirits and also draught ales, lagers and beers, including some local favourites. The dining area offers a good selection of sandwich platters, jacket potatoes and hot bar food and snacks.

A further dining option, the Paddock and Grandstand Bar, is available within the main betting hall and as well as containing a full bar, serves a selection of savoury items such as pies and Cornish pasties. Additional fast food items such as hot dogs, burgers and chips are available from mobile catering vans found around the paddock area.

The facilities, hospitality, and stylish and sophisticated setting of Hereford Racecourse are perfectly suited to conferences, meetings, and exhibitions. Just as with racedays, a series of packages is available and can be tailored to suit a wide variety of corporate applications. Similarly the beautiful surrounds of the course and Hereford itself make the perfect backdrop to weddings and other celebrations. Silks restaurant can be used for the dream wedding day for up to 220 guests sitting to formal dining or a marquee can be erected to provide an alternative venue.
